July 12, 2019 - Tomorrow night OSAS’s partner in the Breeders Crown Charity Challenge, Captain Crunch, will compete in the rich Meadowlands Pace final at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey.
With Scott Zeron in the bike as usual, Captain Crunch will depart from post position one, the same spot he had in last month’s $1 million North America Cup final at Mohawk which he won with authority.
The Breeders Crown Charity Challenge runs until Breeders Crown weekend at Mohawk in late October. Four teams are in contention. Former Major League pitcher Dan Plesac selected OSAS as his charity of choice and we have been partnered with the great Captain Crunch. We are encouraging folks to vote daily in the contest through this link .
Owned by the Three Brothers Stables, Christina Takter, Rojan Stables and Caviart Farms, and trained by Nancy Johansson, the three-year-old is four for five so far this season for $585,000 in earnings.
Captain Crunch’s family has a history in the Meadowlands Pace. His sire, Captaintreacherous, won the 2013 edition convincingly, by more than three lengths. His grandsire, the late, great, Somebeachsomewhere, had an almost flawless season as a sophomore. He won 20 of 21 races. The only race he didn’t win was the Meadowlands Pace in which he finished second by a neck to arch rival Art Official in one of racing’s epic battles.
This year’s Meadowlands Pace is slated as race eight on the Meadowlands’ stakes laden card and should go postward at approximately 9:35.
