Ambassador Horses

Our wonderful Ambassador horses represent the Standardbred breed in a wide variety of capacities including at horse shows, the Drive With Us program, meet and greets at racetracks and farms across the country. We’re blessed to have the following horses representing OSAS and the entire harness racing breed.
Testimonials
“My experience working with OSAS was first rate. I had lost one of my horses and required a companion for my riding horse. I spoke to Joanne and within a week she had arranged to get PL Heavenly – now known as Finn – to me. He’s fit right in from day one and is a much loved member of our animal family.”
Leslie Dusty

"We are so happy with our recent OSAS adoptee Marc Et Master. He is fitting in well with the Standardbred herd at our facility because OSAS listened to our needs, recommended a horse with the right temperament and potential, even ensured that he came to us up to date on vaccinations, farrier trims and deworming plus started under saddle with a solid 30 days of despooking and retraining. Everyone in the adoption process was helpful and focused on him thriving in his new life."

Nancy and Dave Perkins

“I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with OSAS! Professional, respectful and knowledgeable. I’ve been dealing with them for 10 years now and just recently got my second horse from them. Standardbreds truly are hard working, big hearted horses and I’m so glad OSAS represents them so well, they deserve it.”
Fran Brethour
"I want to thank Marni Reimers and Joanne Colville for helping me find my dream horse. He is everything I’ve ever wanted and needed in a horse."
Dyxie Opsitnik

“I recently had the pleasure of facilitating the adoption of a mare through OSAS. This was a special case for a special friend. Tara's husband asked me to go ahead and find a horse for her, for Christmas. This was early December, so pressure was on. Having known Joanne for years from having been part of the racehorse industry, she was my go to with OSAS. I described the situation and put my faith in her and the rest of the crew. Within a week we had ironed out details to bring Foamy home to me for Tara. Her personality is exactly what I requested and the whole process was seamless. Thank you to Joanne for listening and making it happen and all involved with OSAS for continuing to support this wonderful, special breed.”

Julie Morrison Kangas

“I had always owned, ridden and shown other breeds and foolishly I fell into the category of having a bias against Standardbreds as riding horses. My first Standardbred changed all of that, I did everything with him and was never disappointed.”

Brooke Luke

“We are so lucky to have had Roman Knows in our lives for 22 years. OSAS is doing a good service for these horses, who have worked hard in their early years.”

Gillian Gilmore

"I’m very grateful for what OSAS does. I like how they help find the horses the right home and the right person. That’s what they did for me and Bugsy."

Jamie Drew

“Tymal Tempo, who we call Teddy, is seriously the best family horse I have ever had. I am impressed how the Standardbreds are just so versatile. He is the sweetest and most gentle horse I know.”

Marie-Eve Drouin

Thank you for your interest in adopting a Standardbred!

The following explains how our adoption process works:

1. We need you to fill out the Adoption Application and Waiver form found here. These need to be on file with the OSAS office before we send you out to see our horses. Please complete as best as you can.

2. A site inspection is required. A representative from OSAS will come out to inspect the property where the horse will be staying. Every time the horse moves to another location, we require that a site inspection be done. Guidelines for site inspections can be viewed here.

3. Once your application has been received and approved, a representative will contact you and share the information about the horses in foster care. References will also be checked.

4. You can go out and meet our horses in foster care. Please be courteous to our foster parents as they are being generous to volunteer their own time to help expose the horses in their care to prospective adoptive families. A reminder that if you are riding the horse to wear an approved riding helmet. A waiver must be signed before you ride.

If you decide to adopt one of our Standardbreds:

1. We need to have a Placement Agreement signed and sent back to the office either by fax or mail.

2. Shipping is the responsibility of the new adoptive family but of course OSAS will provide advice and direction if required.

3. A guardian will be assigned to your horse and will follow up with you within six months of the horse being adopted. Their duty is to make sure the horse is in good condition and that the home is still suitable. They are available to answer any questions you may have.
