Guardian Program

Guidelines For OSAS Guardians
One of the many important jobs that the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society volunteers do is monitor the care of newly adopted horses. For the first three years after adoption, it is the guardian’s responsibility to follow up with one visit to the adoptive owner and two other forms of contact (phone calls, email, Facebook, etc.) per year. OSAS provides simple forms to complete and offers paid mileage to and from the visit. General conversation on the horse's health, weight and manageability is discussed, recorded and sent to the OSAS office. The guardian also makes sure that the adoptive owner provides the date and outcome to OSAS about the horse’s annual veterinarian visit.

The guardian can also be a friendly support for the adoptive owner, being available for them to call with concerns or questions. If the guardian notices or is informed of any concerns, he/she is to contact OSAS right away so it can be dealt with. This allows for the communication between the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society and the adoptive owners to remain open at all times.
If you are interested in becoming an OSAS guardian, please contact our office and leave your name, contact number and the area you live. We appreciate the continued support of our guardians to assist in the follow up of good care for these wonderful horses.
