McIntosh Gives Back/SBOA Winners

At last night's Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association banquet trainer Bob McIntosh was awarded his sixth Johnston Cup trophy as the Ontario Sires Stakes' leading trainer.

But rather than accept the ring that accompanies the honour, McIntosh requested that the money that would be used to purchase it be donated to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society, a donation worth approximately $1,500.

"It's nice to see a horseman giving back to the animals that have contributed to his success. I wish more people would follow his lead," said Joanne Colville, OSAS's Events Co-ordinator.

McIntosh is Canada's most decorated trainer having been named Canada's trainer of the year more times than any others. He was inducted into Canada's Horse Racing Hall of Fame last year in addition to receiving the Chris Van Bussel Memorial award, is a member of the Living Hall of Fame in the US and last night was the sixth time he's been honoured as the top trainer in the Ontario Sires Stakes program.

McIntosh, who is nominated as Canada's trainer of the Year and Breeder of the Year for 2009 (results to be announced next weekend), has 3,674 lifetime wins and over $82 million in purse earnings.

The SBOA banquet also recognized the breeders of the top horses in each category of the OSS as follows:
